The school 1:1 foundation

Mosyle & Apple School Manager.

For most Australian schools running a 1:1 iPad or MacBook program, the combination of Apple School Manager and Mosyle has become the standard foundation. EduCom IT implements and supports both together — federated identity, automated enrolment, classroom-friendly policies and a clean lifecycle across the school year.

How they work together

Two platforms, one program.

Apple School Manager and Mosyle do different jobs. Apple School Manager is the identity and ownership layer — it tells Apple who the school is, who the students are, and which devices the school owns. Mosyle is the management layer — it tells the devices what apps to install, what restrictions apply, what Wi-Fi to join, and which classes to surface for teachers.

Together they make zero-touch deployment possible: a brand-new iPad ships from the reseller, is automatically associated with the school in Apple School Manager, enrols into Mosyle on first boot, and configures itself with the right apps, restrictions and accounts before the student even unboxes it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do we need both Apple School Manager and Mosyle?

Yes. Apple School Manager handles device ownership, Managed Apple IDs and enrolment. Mosyle handles configuration, apps, restrictions and policies. They are designed to work together.

Can we federate Apple School Manager with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace?

Yes. Federation lets students sign in to Managed Apple IDs using their existing Microsoft Entra ID or Google Workspace account. We configure this as part of setup.

How does this support a 1:1 iPad program?

Apple School Manager owns the iPads and enrols them into Mosyle on first boot. Mosyle pushes the right apps, restrictions and accounts. Devices arrive at students ready to use — no manual configuration. See our school deployment page.

Can we migrate from Jamf School to Mosyle?

Yes. We plan migrations between Apple-specific MDMs carefully — usually staged by year level — so devices and student accounts move without disruption.
